Retirement
Peaceful pastures and attentive daily care for horses ready to slow down — a safe, relaxed next chapter on our quiet 120-acre Hudson Valley farm.
Retirement at Green Meadow is exactly what the name promises — a quiet, attentive next chapter for horses who have given their working years. Many of our retirees are old racehorses and broodmares whose owners want them looked after by people who know the breed.
Horses live out as much as they want to, in small compatible groups across rotational pastures. They come into the barn at night or during weather, by preference. Daily care is delivered by the same staff, year after year, so each horse is known by sight and habit.
We tailor senior feed programs, work with your vet on age-related care, and stay in close touch with owners — including end-of-life decisions, which we approach with honesty and care.

- Our pasture-board retirement rate starts at $45 per day and includes hay, feed, daily care, and basic farrier. Wellness vet visits are included twice yearly; other vet is billed at cost.
- Is this thoroughbred aftercare?
- Yes. We provide long-term aftercare for retired racehorses and broodmares, in small compatible herds across rotational pastures, with the same staff every day, year after year.
- Do horses live out, or come into the barn?
- By preference. Most of our retirees live out in compatible groups and come in at night or during weather as they choose. We tailor the setup to the horse.
- Is there a minimum stay for retirement boarding?
- Six months. Retirement at Green Meadow is meant to be a quiet, settled chapter — not a short-term placement.
