Thoroughbred Layups, Rehab & Equine Rehabilitation

Quiet, full-care thoroughbred layups and racehorse rehabilitation between starts — trusted by NYRA owners and trainers. Round-the-clock monitoring, lush paddocks, cold saltwater spa, and direct vans to Saratoga, Belmont, Aqueduct, and Parx.

Layups at Green Meadow are designed in coordination with the horse's primary veterinarian and trainer. Each runner receives daily handling, controlled turnout in dedicated rehabilitation paddocks, and graduated reconditioning under the supervision of long-tenured staff who have spent decades with thoroughbreds.

Our property is purpose-built for equine rehabilitation: well-drained paddocks, soft footing, run-in sheds, an on-site cold saltwater spa, an equine swimming pool, and the quiet a horse needs to come down off the racetrack. We update trainers and owners with regular written progress reports and photos.

Lay-ups are typically 30–120 days, though we accept shorter and longer programs by arrangement. We coordinate shipping in and out, including direct vans to Saratoga Race Course, Belmont Park, Aqueduct Racetrack, Parx Racing, Monmouth Park, and Finger Lakes.

Frequently Asked

Common questions from owners & trainers.

When should I lay up my thoroughbred?
Most NYRA trainers send a horse for a layup after a campaign, between meets, or following a soft-tissue injury that needs controlled turnout. Layups are typically 30 to 120 days; we accept shorter or longer programs by arrangement.
What does a thoroughbred layup cost?
Our full-care layup rate starts at $55 per day, which includes individual rehab-paddock turnout, twice-daily stall checks, free-choice hay, grain, and progress reports. Vet, farrier, and supplements are billed at cost.
Do you ship from Saratoga, Belmont, and Aqueduct?
Yes. We coordinate direct vans to and from every NYRA track — Saratoga Race Course, Belmont Park, and Aqueduct — as well as Parx Racing, Monmouth Park, and Finger Lakes. Most pickups are next-day.
Do you handle equine rehabilitation, not just rest?
Yes. We offer graduated reconditioning, hand-walking, cold saltwater spa sessions, and equine pool work, all coordinated with your veterinarian and trainer. Each program is built around the horse.
How far are you from NYRA tracks?
Pine Plains, NY is about 90 minutes from Saratoga, 2 hours from Belmont and Aqueduct, and 3 hours from Parx. We are in Dutchess County, in the heart of the Hudson Valley.
